Maricela Garcia, CNM grew up in the Pilsen -Little village area of Chicago, Illinois. Her first language is Spanish. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2003 and my Masters of Science in Nursing with a Midwifery Concentration from the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2009. She has 17 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/ Certified Nurse Midwife and is credentialed by the American Midwifery Certification Board. She also holds memberships with The American College of Nurse Midwives, Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health and the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals.
Before her professional career as a midwife she worked an array of health related positions: a childbirth educator, doula, HIV/STD counselor for the department of public health. Additionally she has extensive experience working in varied settings: hospitals, community health clinics, private medical practices and women’s surgical centers.
Maricela has a particular clinical interest in contraceptive technology and adolescent sexual health. She went into this field of work to empower women to lead healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives. She has three adult children, they are two daughters and a son. During her time away from the clinic, she enjoys Bikram yoga, Pilates, meditation, jogging, bubble water and photography.
